Nike is an American multinational corporation that produces sports footwear, apparel, and accessories. Founded in 1971, it is headquartered in Beaverton, in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. The company's name is inspired by the Greek goddess of victory Nike, a winged goddess capable of high-speed movement, whose most famous representation, a sculpture exhibited at the Louvre, is the Nike of Samothrace. The brand has a simple and instantly recognizable logo: the so-called Swoosh, an inverted horizontal comma. It was created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 as a stylized representation of the goddess's wing. The company is the largest supplier of sports equipment in the world. The main competitors are Adidas, Puma, and Under Armour.
