Collection: Lacoste

Lacoste is a French clothing brand founded in 1933 by René Lacoste and his friend André Gillier. It became famous for inventing the polo shirt, featuring a crocodile on the left chest. The crocodile, the brand's symbol, is heat-applied to clothing. The classic logo has remained unchanged over the years, except for a slight reduction in size in recent decades. Sometimes the crocodile can be a color other than green, for example silver. The true story of the "Crocodile" begins in 1927. René Lacoste loved to tell how his nickname became a world-famous emblem. "The American press nicknamed me 'The Crocodile' following a bet I had made with the captain of the French Davis Cup team. He had promised me a crocodile suitcase if I won an important match for the team. The American public remembered this nickname, which emphasized the tenacity I demonstrated on the tennis courts, as I never gave up on my prey! My friend Robert George drew me a crocodile, which was then embroidered on the blazer I wore on the court."
